The Story

We’ve planned weddings for couples spanning literally dozens of nationalities, so we were surprised to realise that Hanne and Tore’s was our very first Norwegian wedding in Barcelona. From their very first email, we knew we were going to love this couple. They decided to officially make their vows having been together for many years, and having had two beautiful daughters together. Hence they had already lived through that period when one finds oneself attending a lot of weddings, and they were very clear on what they wanted and, more importantly, didn’t want.

They kicked off their Norwegian wedding in Barcelona with drinks and tapas at a fabulous roof terrace overlooking the city’s port. Then, for the wedding day, they whisked their guests off to a historical venue in the Spanish countryside.

The Wedding

This was very much a Norwegian wedding, in Barcelona style. The couple were keen to have most of the day al fresco, and to treat their guests to all sorts of typical Spanish dishes, while still maintaining lots of the traditions from their home country.

The décor was elegant, to fit the castle style venue, but still playful, in keeping with the summer wedding ambience. There were plenty of blush and candy pink tones, with little pops of gold and glitter.

The Highlights

Hanne and Tore’s daughters were of course a big part of the day. The starlets had important roles in both the ceremony and even in the first dance. Speeches were very plentiful and very entertaining. Indeed one of the best came from the couple’s ten year old nephew. And we had so much fun learning about and incorporating Scandinavian traditions for this Norwegian wedding in Barcelona. While we’re used to hearing clinking glasses to signal that someone is about to make a speech, at a Norwegian wedding this is a command to the bride and groom to stand on their chairs and kiss. We vote for this one to become an international wedding custom.

When a couple have already been together for many years and had so many important life experiences together, seeing them celebrate their love with their nearest and dearest is incredibly special. Safe to say that our wedding planner kit was void of tissues by the end of the evening. An incredibly gracious and friendly family and group of guests, who we were honoured to get to know.
